Tour Description

Yachana Lodge

Yachana Lodge is an award winning, Amazon ecotourism destination that inspires thousands of international and Ecuadorian visitors each year. 'Yachana' is an indigenous Kichua word that means 'A place for learning', which is the best description of what we do. As you embark on your journey deep into the Amazon, you can be proud that your visit is helping to address education, conservation and sustainable development in a unique way in this environmentally sensitive region. At Yachana, we believe the future of the rainforest is inextricably linked to the well-being of its inhabitants; only those who call the rainforest their home can ensure its survival.

You will hike in Primary and Secondary rainforest with one of Yachana's English-speaking naturalist guides and discover the amazing symbiosis of the animals, birds, trees, plants and insects to name but a few. You will discover how the area's peoples have coexisted with the forest for centuries. You will visit Yachana's extraordinary and impressive Technical High School set up for the indigenous youth of the Amazon and learn about its organic farm. You will visit a traditional healer for a cleansing ceremony, stargaze from our stunning deck and visit our Butterfly House. You will have time to relax in your hammock and to swim in the River Napo or to sip a drink whilst watching a spectacular sun setting over the river. Whatever your motivation for visiting Yachana, you can be sure that your experience will be unforgettable.

The lodge's main building offers 18 comfortable rooms or cabins each with its own porch, which is perfect for appreciating the beauty of the Amazon as you relax in your hammock. Our Garden View rooms are nestled amid colorful flowering plants, and our River View rooms boast breathtaking vistas of the Napo River. Each room comes complete with a private bathroom, hot showers, and clean drinking water.

We also offer shared accommodations in Casa Quest for students, special groups and budget travelers. At Casa Quest there are shared bathrooms and showers. Next to the Casa Quest building there's a traditional open-air thatch pavilion which is perfect for social gatherings.

Your vist to Yachana includes a wide range of services and amenities, including three delicious meals every day, satellite Internet and a gift shop. The lodge is the training facility for the young Yachana Technical High School students in ecotourism. They are here to provide you with the very best service, but also, a very human touch.

Yachana has created a name for itself thanks in large part to its delectable Amazon cuisine. Indigenous chefs craft their dishes from fruits, vegetables, chicken and fish produced on our own organic farm. Soups, salads and main dishes are served in a family-style setting on long tables in our dining hall. We also serve Yachana Jungle Chocolate in many forms at almost every meal, which needless to say is a highlight for anybody who loves real chocolate! We can accommodate special dietary requirements if advised ahead of time.

Local and regional crafts and Yachana Lodge t-shirts are available in our gift shop. We also sell Yachana Jungle Chocolate and Yachana Choconibs, unique snacks made by Yachana Gourmet, an ecologically conscious, Fair Trade certified company which is part of the Yachana Group and was created to provide sustainable economic alternatives for local farmers.

Alter you have rested your guide will take you on a short hike to a spectacular high viewpoint where you can see the splendor of the rainforest reach out as far as the eye can see in every direction and you will watch the first of several beautiful Amazon sunsets. On clear days you can even see the snow-clad Gran Sumaco volcano rising up in the distance.

Day 2

Your guide will lead you on an amazing journey into the rainforest where he’ll explain the medicinal and cultural uses of various plants and amaze you with the diversity of birds and animals that inhabit the rainforest he calls home. This is truly a wonderful and fascinating experience for all the senses accompanied always by the sounds of the jungle orchestra! Visit the Butterfly House on your return to the Lodge where you can learn about the fragile symbiosis between the species and the plants they rely on to survive.
